WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) issued the following statement after the Trump Administration announced that it will reject new applications under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program which protects hundreds of thousands of immigrants who were brought to the United States as children from deportation.

“Once again the Administration is taking action to limit the hopes of DREAMers, who were brought here as children and only know the United States as their home. They serve in our military, work at our schools, and contribute to communities across the country. After the Supreme Court struck down the Administration’s unlawful attempt to end DACA, I joined my colleagues to request that the Administration reopen DACA to new applicants. The continued attempts by this Administration to rescind legal protections for DREAMers are callous and wrong.

“We must keep working toward comprehensive immigration reform to ensure that DREAMers and their families have a path to citizenship. We cannot allow their fate to be decided by the political whims of an Administration that has shown no willingness to find a solution--I will be.”
