Mayoral Priorities 2025

Vision Statement: A City that works for everybody, where potential is realized, and where
opportunity and access lead to a direct correlation between hard work and success; where
people feel safe, can live affordably; and where their dreams are supported and embraced both
by our City team and by the community.

COMMUNITY SAFETY & POLICE REFORM


• Recruit more police officers and community safety professionals.
• Implement police reforms for equitable outcomes in law enforcement encounters.
• Provide a broad, equitable, and bias-free spectrum of safety services.
• Support partner governments’ work on treatment and recovery options for substance use disorder,
with a particular focus on fentanyl.

ECONOMIC INCLUSION & RECOVERY


• Build generational wealth for Black and Brown small business owners through programs such as the
Ownership and Opportunity Fund and Business/Developer Technical Assistance.
• Advance major projects, including: 38th and Chicago (George Floyd Square), 3000 Minnehaha,
Nicollet Mall Pedestrianization, New Nicollet (former K-Mart site), and the Warehouse District/
Entertainment District.
• Bring back downtown using strategies formulated and executed by the Downtown Action Council.
• Advance racial healing through programs such as National Day of Racial Healing and Story Corps, in
addition to ongoing work within the Department of Race, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING & HOMELESSNESS RESPONSE


• Increase public housing and deeply affordable rental housing.
• Continue the Stable Homes Stable Schools program.
• Reduce racial disparities in homeownership and build generational wealth.
• Eliminate childhood lead poisoning by 2035.
• Reduce unsheltered homelessness and the impacts of encampments on the community.

CLIMATE ACTION
• Reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 2050 GHG goals to improve public health through the Climate
Legacy Initiative, Green Careers exploration, Homegrown, solid waste management practices, an
updated franchise agreement, and more.

GOOD GOVERNANCE
• Provide core public services with excellence.
• Improve outcomes through data driven decision making through Outcomes Minneapolis.
